Class of 1948

  • Donald Johnson C'48 is planning a ten family member reunion in Sewanee July 2002.

  • Fred N Mitchell C'48 is a proud grandfather of twins, Addison and Amelia. His daughter, and mother of the twins, is Jane Mitchell Baugh C'85.

  • William Thompson Richter C'49 T'69 was 230 lbs in 1949 and now weighs 185 and is in excellent health at age 78.

  • Stanton E Huey, Jr C'52 sold all his company stock December 31, 2001. He is still working as an engineer.

  • R. Coleman Inge T'56 turned 75 years old and is still doing lots of funerals, weddings, and supply work. He says he would do it all over again if he had the chance!

  • Thomas M Black C'58 is excited to have four grandchildren as potential Sewanee students. The oldest will be eligible for admission around 2017.

  • Alvan Arnall C''60 reports that he has retired from the law and is enjoying retirement In Atlanta. A new grandchild (his first) was born last month. He is looking forward to a trip to China in September in connection with the People to People Ambassador Program.

  • Brantly Cox C'60 reports that he is now retired from the financial business in Columbia, SC and is enjoying two grandchildren. He travels quite a bit using banjo festivals and musical get-togethers as justification. In addition he sells 4 string vintage jazz banjos on the Internet.

  • Bob Kane C'60 shot a hole in one Saturday, March 16 (his career 2nd) at his Coosa Country Club, Rome, Georgia, where he is President.

  • William C Stewart C'60 continues to be a certified tour guide for Montgomery and the State of Alabama.

  • The Very Right Reverend Robert Giannini T'64 is serving as the President for the Board of Trustees for the General Theological Seminary.

  • Jim Yeary C'64, T'69, and DMin '89 has retired from Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta to serve as Interim Rector fo St. Peter's Church in Rome, GA until this past Dec. 31, 2002.

  • The Rev. Robert Abstein T'65 was elected, along with three other alumni of the University, by the Diocese of Tennessee to serve as a deputy at the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in 2003.

  • Dr. James G Dickson C'65 has completed a new book: Wildlife of Southern Forests: Habitat and Management published by Hancock House Publishers.

  • David G Shulman C'65 was recently elected as the Chair of the Council of The American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the A.A.O.

  • Bill Allison C'67 was recently named Best Criminal Defense Lawyer, 2000-2001, by the State Bar of Texas. There is an article and photos in the University of Texas Law School where he has taught for the past 27 years. The address is

  • Arjun Sajniani lives in Bangalore, India and is a film maker. His first film will be released in India and internationally around the middle of May, 2002. He would love to hear from Sewanee classmates at firerain@satyam.net.in

  • Walter Merrill C'70 and his wife Morgan C'73 will be moving to Cincinnati, Ohio this summer where Walter is taking a position as Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical School.

  • Buck Hinkle C'70 is the Chairman of the Board of Regents for Morehead State University. He also serves as the Chairman of the Governing Committee for the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry and served with Alec Moseley C'70 who is governing committee member.

  • Pete Stringer C'71 was elected, along with three other alumni of the University, by the Diocese of Tennessee to serve as a deputy at the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in 2003.

  • Tim Callahan C'72 retired on February 1, 2002 from the United States Air Force in the rank of Colonel, after 29 years on active duty.

  • Kyle Rote, Jr C'72 was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame on February 1, 2002.

    Class of 1973

  • Jack Stibbs C'73, a national leader in the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, recently testified before the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee that determines funding for the nation's health care system. A guest of U.S. Representative Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands), Stibbs talked about the need to increase funding to find a cure for Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). Stibbs' daughter Emily, 10, suffers from PH. Helping find a cure for PH has been a priority of Brady's in Congress. PH is a rare lung disorder in which the pressure in the pulmonary artery rises above normal levels and becomes life threatening. Frequently misdiagnosed, patients on the average have a mere five-year life span after diagnosis.

  • John Stewart, C'73, is alive and well in Birmingham, AL, where he serves as Manager of Engineering for Gresham, Smith and Partners, an Architectural and Engineering firm. John and Nancy have 3 sons, Jeff, 23, Andy, 20 and Chris, 17. Nancy is Director of Riverchase Day School at Riverchase Methodist Church where John and Nancy sing in the choir.

  • The Rev. James K. Polk Van Zandt C'74, T'94 was elected as an Alumni Trustee - Clerical. He currently is the Rector at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Selma, Alabama.

  • Herbert "Trey" Yarbrough C'74 opened his own law practice on October 1, 2000 and specializes in civil litigation. Trey and his wife, Paula, have two children - Ty, age 19 and Hallie, age 16.

  • After nearly 20 years as Assistant District Attorney, Richard Dunavant, C'74, was recently appointed as Assistand Attorney General for the State of Tennessee.

  • Pamela Mumby C'75 has started a business in the Denver, CO area providing healthcare to businesses. She will complete a post-Master's in Psychiatric Nursing from teh University of Colorado July 2002.

  • Charles "Peanut" Walton C'75 is married to Amy LAwrence of Jackson, Tennessee and they have four children: Caitlin - 13, Rachel - 11, Emma - 9, and Luke - 6, hopefully all Sewanee students.

  • Memily Rogers Colvin C'75 is the President of the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham, Alabama.

  • Jeff McMahan, C'76 recently published "The Ethics Of Killing: Problems of the Margins of Life"< published by the Oxford University Press. Jeff is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is currently workin gon a companion volume to this book that will deal with the ethics of killing in self-defense, in war, and as a mode fo punishment.

  • Carol Elliott C'77 married Buddy Mondlock in 2001 at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. He is a fellow troubadour and songwriter.

  • Chip Headrick C'80 recently welcomed Julia Austin Headrick on January 10, 2002. She joins her older sister Samantha, age 5.

  • The Rev. Canon Dr. R. F. DeWolfe T'80 is in his 7th year as Canon Missioner in the Diocese of West Texas supervising lay and clergy ministry for "Partners in Ministry" - a cluster of eight churches in teh Eastern Convocation.

  • Crayton L. Bell C'81, formerly Of Counsel with the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, has been named partner in the Global Corporate Group. His practice includes the representations of both public and private companies on a wide range of domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, private equity investments, joint ventures and corporate restructurings, as well as securities offerings and advising companies with respect to general corporate matters. Over the past several years, Mr. Bell has worked on acquisitions and joint ventures in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America, and on U.S. corporate restructurings and private equity investments, in a variety of industries, including technology, electronics, chemical, insurance and utility.

  • Cindy Albrecht Durham C'81 began a new job as a Foster Care Review Board Specialist with the Sumner County (TN) Juvenile Court. This combines her past work with CASA and her desire to help kids.

  • Paul S Ware C'82 is the Head of Financial Institutions M & A Group for the firm of Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP, which was ranked second in 2001 in the southeast for the total number of financial institutions sold during 2001. Paul and his wife, Joanna Fitts Ware C'82 have two children, Hannah - 12 and Jameson - 10.

  • John Gilliland C'82 and his wife, Rosalie, had a daughter, Mary Rose Gilliland. She was born 1-8-02.

  • Stuart Murray C'83 is enjoying being a parent. He and his wife, Cheri, have two daughters Hannah (age 7) and Rachel (age 4). Stuart is finally reading some of the works of Andrew Lytle and enjoying remembering his friendship with him while at Sewanee.

  • Kate Belknap Huster C'83 was recently elected as an alumni trustee. Kate currently lives in Grand Junction, Colorado where she is the Director of Snow Sports and Summer Programs and is a lecturer in English at Mesa State college.

    Carla Nimocks C'83 and her husband Mallory Nimocks C'81 are experiencing the "fabulous 40s"; "Terrific 2s" with our latest addition Maggie Pate; "Nifty Nines" with our daughter Caroline, and the "Titanic Teen Years" with our son Rylan. Life is good!

  • Ellen S. Goldey C'84, associate professor of biology at Wofford College, has been named Outstanding Educator of the Year by the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation. The announcement was made May 7, 2002 at Wofford's Spring Honors Convocation.

  • Bahia Yackzan C'84 is living in Harrington, ME where she is enjoying being a mother to 14 month old Haadi Himal Parker Yackzan Shaw. Haadi means peaceful in Arabic and Himal means mountain in Nepalese where Bahia met her husband, Dwayne, while in the Peace Corps. Bahia works periodically as a consultant/trainer on Diversity Awareness/Healing from Bias, Peer Counseling skills,etc. and part-time as a documentary filmmaker. She is about to complete a film about a school in Ladakh, India, designed to sustain indigenous ways of life and to help protect the religion (Tibetan Buddhism) from incoming changes and influences in the area. Bahia and her husband are also Registered Maine Guides and take special groups or couples out on river camping and canoeing trips.

  • David Bowers c'85 is now Assistant Dean for External Affairs at California Western School of Law in San Diego, California.

  • Rob Johnson C'86 and his wife, Pam, had a baby on Monday 4/8, Eleanor Elisabeth ("Ellie"). She was 8lbs, 13oz and 21.5 inches. Ellie joins her older brother Bo.

  • Caroline Morton Huffman C'86 was unable to make the 15th reunion at Homecoming due to the birth of her daughter, Anne Houston Crenshaw Huffman on October 24, 2001. Anne joins big brother Cameron (age 5). Caroline and her husband Dane live in Raleigh, North Carolina.

  • Sarah A. Rice, C '87, gave birth to her second son, Nathan Claiborne, in March. Nathan joins older brother, William, who is 2. Sarah and her husband, Richard Cox, live in San Jose, CA.

  • Peaches Yeilding Scribner and her husband, Chris, live in Birmingham, Alabama. She is an editor at Health Magazine. They are adopting a daughter to be named Hanna Gage from China in 2002.

  • Garrison C'88 and Carol Martin had a 2nd daughter on September 10, 2001, named Alice Dalton.

  • Sarah B. Halbkat Eppes C'88 and her husband, John, welcomed their fifth child on September 8th, 2001. Her name is Hannah Lily Hartshorn Eppes, and she joins brothers Norris (11), Cooper (9) and Christopher (7), and sister Liesl (4). They continue to live in Toccoa, Georgia. Sarah stays tremendously busy homeschooling their 4 oldest children. They have a great time, and thoroughly enjoy this educational choice!

  • Kathryn Dunn Lott C'88 has a son, William Anthony Lott born on July 31, 2001 and a daughter Kathryn Anne - age 3.

  • Ted Raynor C'88 has a son, Maximus Jones Raynor who just celebrated his first birthday.

  • Paul C'88 and Lawton Brewster Boardman C'88 will be moving to a new home in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles at the end of April. They have a two year old daughter, Annabel Lawton Boardman. Currently, Paul is writing screenplays for Walt Disney Pictures, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, and Le Studio Canal.

  • Amy Buckman Wright, C'89, and her husband Miles have a two year old son, Murphy. They live in Birmingham, AL where Amy is a freelance writer and Miles is an art director at an advertising agency

  • Claire Johnson Rand, C'87, and members of the class of 1989 Elizabeth Mebus Greenwood, Mary Jo Shankle Livengood, and Christina Clark Roberts gathered for Lessons & Carols in December. Classmate Kim Hatfield Heitzenrater joined them for dinner at the home of Sewanee parents Brownie and Tom Watkins.

  • Missy Meredith Owen, class of 1990, and her husband David, had a daughter, Meredith Taylor Owen, on September 19, 2001. Meredith is also welcomed by brother Jack (3 1/2 years).

  • Dandridge Woodworth C'90 was recently elected as alumni trustee. He is an Investment Banker for J.P. Morgan in New York City and is an Aviator in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

  • Anna Beasnett Graham C'90 and her husband Shawn C'89 have a daughter Meredith, who just celebrated her 2nd birthday. Anna is the Director of Community Relations for the Blount County Chapter for the American Red Cross and also serves as Fund Development Consultant.

  • Josephine Rose Lowery C'90 married Dr. Trenton Lowery in December 2000 and they had their first child, Harrison Noser Lowery, in October, 2001. Josephine was just made partner at the law firm of Balch & Bingham (January 1, 2002) and she is training for her sixth marathon.

  • Courtenay "Becky" Budd, C'90 recently performed in Sewanee as part of the Performing Arts Series. Courtenay is an acclaimed coloratura soprano, and in 2001 was named the First Prize Winner of the 2001 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

  • Bradford Ladd C'92, and his wife Frances Armstrong Ladd C'92, had a baby girl on May 25th. They named her Frances Campbell Ladd, and she'll be called Campbell. She weighed 7 lbs. 2 oz., and they are all doing well.

  • Ruth Holton Spencer's C'91 husband, Henry is opening a new business, Image Arts, Etc. in Birmingham. It is a digital imaging company.

  • Bradford Ladd C'92, and his wife Frances Armstrong Ladd C'92, had a baby girl on May 25th. They named her Frances Campbell Ladd, and she'll be called Campbell. She weighed 7 lbs. 2 oz., and they are all doing well.

  • Mason Hardy C'92 joins the Newberry County (S.C.) Hospital Foundation as the new Executive Director. He previously was the Director of Public Relations for Nexsen Pruet Jacobs & Pollard law firm in Columbia, SC.

  • Tara Moore Skelton C'92 and her husband, Ben, had their first child, Owen Patrick, on 4/10/02. He was 7 lbs and 15.4 oz, 20 1/4 inches. He will spend his first year of life in Johnson City, Tennessee before we move to the location (not yet known) where Ben will begin his residency.

  • Andy Keyse C'92 graduates from the school of theology at Sewanee with a Master of Divinity May 4th and will return to Chicago to serve as assistant rector at Grace Church, Hinsdale IL. His wife, Beth Stocks Keyse C'92 will be director of development and alumni relations at Elgin Academy in Elgin, IL.   • Karsten Robbins C"92 moved from Geneva, Switzerland with his wife, Caroline, to Boston for a Masters Degree. He was the founder of College Publisher, which he has since sold and is now the CEO for Kid's Energy, an educational software company.

  • Mason B Hardy C'92 has become the Executive Director of the Hospital Foundation at Newberry County memorial Hospital in Newberry, South Carolina.

  • Amy Gerbracht C'93 is engaged and is planning a June 2003 wedding.

  • Melissa Nimon C'93 and her husband Wesley Nimon C'93 have recently moved to Collierville, TN. Melissa is staying home with their new son, Thomas Wesley, born January 31, 2002. Wesley has taken a new job as a labor economist witht he US Navy and is working near Memphis.

  • Spencer Goetz C'93 is a pilot for Delta Airlines and continues to live in Atlanta with his wife Jane and recent arrival Spencer Goetz, Jr.

  • Cameron Graham C'95 has moved to Quito, Ecuador to work in a Youth Ministry resource and traning center called Mundo Juvenil.

  • Anson Mount, C'95 is starring in "Crossroads", with Britney Spears which was released on February 15. He will be appearing in "City By the Sea" with Robert DeNiro which will be released in the Fall of 2002. Anson began work on a new film, "Tulse Luper Suitcase" in late February.

  • Katherine Inge C'96 will be attending Oxford University in England this fall to receive her Master's in International and Comparative Education.

  • Molly Davis Holdeman C'96 has a son, Noah, who is introducing her to toddlerhood, and she looks forward to relocating to Florida when her husband Michael concludes his anesthesia residency in June 2003.

  • Lori Phillips-Jones C'96 and Phillip Jones C'96 had their first son, Alexander Phillip Jones born August 23, 2001.

  • Clark C'96 and Katie Greene Gallivan C'96 say life is great in Greenville, South Carolina. Their son, Jack, just celebrated his first birthday and they LOVE being parents. They hope to bring Jack to the mountain soon.

  • Rachel Miers Hally C'97 lives in Rockville, Maryland with her husband Malcolm and their son, Callum (age 4 1/2). Malcolm is a sculptor and Rachel works for Lexis Nexis as an Assistant Managing Editor for print and web-based legislative and Congressional publications.

  • Ian Brauner C'98 is studying Neuro Science at LSU Medical Center. Ian and Malia C'01 will soon celebrate their 3rd wedding anniversary

  • Elizabeth Arnett C'98 just bought a house in Greenville, South Carolina and is building a small addition to the back of it. She is enjoying her new English Setter puppy, Molly, and continues to love her job as a Senior Account Executive for NewSouth Communications.

  • Lauryl Hicks C'99 will return to the mountain for the Advent semester to teach three English courses before going back to UVa to continue working on her doctorate. She is engaged to be married to Adam Tucker in Charlottesville next June.

  • Mary Koppel C'99 graduates from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in May and will move to Metairie, Louisiana where she will work at St. Martin's Episcopal Church.

  • Joe Mobley C'99 now lives at 1139 Island Place East, Memphis, TN 38103. He is in his first year of medical school at Memphis and just finished a Masters in Public Health in International Health Policy at George Washington University in Washington DC.

  • Culver Stapleton has accepted a position with Duke University Medical School as a Major Gifts Officer. She will move to Durham and begin her new job in mid May.

  • Kate Wassum C'99 graduates from Portfolio Center on March 29, where she studied Art Direction. She has accepted a studio/creative position at Austin Kelley Advertising in Atlanta.

  • Farrar Betts is currently living in Richmond, VA where she is a Sales Assistant for the brokerage firm, Davenport & Co., LLC.

  • Brian Fiore C'00 has recently earned a Master of Public Administration Degree at the Univeristy of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has accepted an Analyst position with the Center for Army Analysis in the DC Metro Area under the Federal government's Presidential Management Internship Program. Brian and his brother, Jeff C'00,received the Best Graduate Paper Award from the Tennessee Political Science Association for an article they co-authored on the implications of a national missile defense.

  • After a year at Culver Academies as a foreign language intern, Nate Clendenin C'00 spent 3 months living in London (visited Scotland and Wales as well) then travelled in France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, and Holland. While in Switzerland, he studied philosophy and theology for two months at L'abri. He is moving to Chapel Hill, NC in August to pursue a career in web development.

  • J Michael Woody C'00 will move in June to begin Business School at the University of South Carolina to earn an IMBA.

  • Scott Hall C'01 lives in Nashville, TN and works for Dell computers.
